I bought this for the car, but it makes a great little tv at home, too. The screen is much nicer than my friends OEM dvd player, much bigger. The speakers plug into the sides, not connected by wires. They snap (not too) easily on/off. The FM modulator is a widget on the lighter plug, and you can set it to a variety of stations to get it to come in. It works just fine. One drawback, the video/audio out (fm modulator) uses the same plugs as the IN, you just switch a switch. So this means you can't run the fm modulator and an input (gamecube) at the same time. But the speakers still work, so gamecube can use the ports as an "in" and the sound can then come out the speakers. Ok, I guess. The thing comes with straps that allow you to suspend it between two seats in the car. But if the seats are tilted, then the screen is tilted. Audiovox should...Read more 40 of 41 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Audiovox D1020 10-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics) I have always been biased against the Audiovox brand since I was a kid. My sister once got an Audiovox stereo and it was awful.
That said, I hesitantly ordered this unit for my car becuase it seemed to have the perfect set of features. It comes with straps for mounting it into your car, a cigararette lighter adapter, and 2 wireless headphones. I've had it about a month now and it is perfect. The included straps worked perfectly in my car. The wireless headphones are great. It can even broadcast the DVD sound over your car's radio if you want. The quality seems to be fine, and as I said, the feature set it perfect if you are looking to set up a DVD player for the kids in the back seat of your car. 19 of 19 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Audiovox D1020 10-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics) I've had this for about 3 weeks now and got it just in time for a family vacation. I'd expect the price to drop even more given the market competition and technology improvements, but for now, just about right given the features provided. Pluses: Larger size screen, clear picture, wireless headphones, kept the kids occupied during an 8-hour car ride, portability. Negatives: Viewing angle can be tricky if the drivers seat and front passenger seat are not at the same depth. IR radio transmitter tends to be a bit "scratchy" since the antennae provided is relatively short. Speakers provided sometimes rattle at higher volumes. Portability is a double-edged sword. Convenience of transfer to another car, hotel room, etc., but then you have to break down your set-up whenever you park your car in a high-theft area due to its visibility. Cable TV hook-up is possible, but I haven't tried this yet. This could actually serve as a...Read more |
