Amazon.com Product Description
Daewoo's DVN8100N progressive-scan DVD player is an appealing yet inexpensive addition to your home theater system or any TV in your home. This versatile player gives you pure reproduction of images and sound, and is filled with features. The DVN8100N utilizes progressive-scan video technology to yield vivid colors, clean resolution, and reduced onscreen distortion. While the DVN8100N is compatible with both analog and digital televisions, you will get the optimum effect by linking it with a digital, high-definition television.

The DVN8100N includes a number of features to enhance your DVD viewing experience. The multi-angle mode lets you change the camera view of the scene you are watching, on multi-angle compatible DVDs. The adjustable aspect ratio mode lets you resize the video image to the optimal setting: either a 16:9 widescreen or a 4:3 conventional ratio. With the zoom feature, you can enlarge or reduce onscreen images. The DVN8100N provides a number of search modes for DVDs. In addition to basic fast forward and reverse options, you can search a DVD by individual chapters or by playing time. The DVN8100N remembers where you stopped watching a DVD so you can immediately return to that spot the next time you are ready to watch.

Your movies and music will sound great with clear, clean sound, thanks to the DVN8100N's Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound system. The DVN8100N features a coaxial digital audio output that allows you to easily connect the DVD player to a home theater receiver. An analog audio output is also included on the DVN8100N. The DVN8100N also features a number of video outputs, including component and composite connections.

In addition to DVDs, the DVN8100N plays CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, so you can enjoy all your favorite music with the same rich sound you get with your movies. You can also play MP3s and view digital JPEG photos from CDs created in your computer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing All Regions Player For Less Than $40, May 18, 2005

This progressive scan DVD player is the steal of the century. The picture quality is excellent and if you're a fan of films from Asia or Europe, you can turn it into an all-regions player in two seconds using the remote control. (Other places on the net are selling the same region-free machine for $70. Save your money. You don't have to pay $30 for someone else to push six buttons on the remote.)

It's a progressive scan player but I've discovered the picture on my Sony HD set is better when the Sony up-converts the signal and the Daewoo is set to output an interlaced signal.

I've had it for about a week now and I'm totally impressed. Check out a review on the 8100N on hometheaterhifi.com -- the testers there ranked it very well. It has a picture that's as good as players costing five times the $40.

If you're looking for a good all-regions player for peanuts you can't go wrong with the Daewoo 8100N.

I have a few beefs: the setup menu...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD Player but not for VCD, July 30, 2005
This review is from: Daewoo DVN-8100N Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I had this DVD player from Amazon.com due to the fact it is low price and other viewers gave it a five stars. It is a great machine, if you are only want to watch DVD, picture is crystal clear. However, when I put one of my VCDs in there, it wouldn't read and detect it. So I have to return it via USPS (it costs me about $10 to return, while only get a total refund of $40).

So as I said, if you are only looking to watch DVD and have a tight budget then this is a good product to get.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY: BROKE DOWN IN LESS THAN 2 MOS., July 29, 2005

This review is from: Daewoo DVN-8100N Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this model from Amazon because of the good review re format compatibility issues and its low price. Perhaps there is something to the adage you get what you pay for. Yesterday it inexplicably wouldn't turn on. Surprising considering low use: we used it one to two days a week (3 hours a week max.) for the seven weeks we had it. Very disappointed. Of course I threw out boxes and warranties, having assumed it would last for at least a year. Online user manuals had no solution for this issue. My spouse who is an electrical engineer could not fix it. I am bitter.
