Amazon.com Product Description
JVC's XV523GD is a deluxe DVD player at an affordable price. The XV523GD has all the features you'd expect from a high-end DVD player, including Dolby Digital and DTS compatibility, optical and coaxial digital audio outputs, and component-video jacks.
The XV523GD also offers 3D-Phonic virtual surround sound for two-channel speaker systems. In addition, you can play recordable CDs in both the CD-R and CD-RW formats.
JVC uses separate construction throughout the player to isolate key components, including the power supply, digital circuitry, analog-video, and analog-audio components. The XV523GD has a 24-bit, 96 kHz digital-to-analog audio converter and a 10-bit, 27 MHz video D/A converter.
The handsome player comes with a full-function, universal remote control and a jog-shuttle dial on the front panel that offers precision control over step-frame advance, fast-forward, and rewind.

Comment: I have owned this player for 5 years, have never encountered problems brought up by other owners. I believe these complaints were caused by human error, because this player is AWESOME! I love the multiple digital inputs on the back (I utilize the optical output) and the playback is flawless. Granted, the remote is kind of large, but is easy to use unless you can't read. Even on a HD TV, the display is crystal clear along with the sound. I would recommend this player to anyone looking for a reliable, worthwhile, entertaining investment.

Comment: My family bought two of these players about 3 years ago - one for downstairs, one for my room. The one downstairs has never had any problems, whatsoever.
The player in my room has worked almost perfectly up until about a month ago. I bought a new DVD, and it played without a problem the first time. The second time I put in the DVD it played fine, but the disc was caught; the tray came out empty. I called customer service and talked with a technical staff worker, and he had me try punching a few buttons, unplugging while holding down a couple buttons, etc., but the disc is still stuck inside. We're debating whether or not to take it to a service center, or purchase a new one. Considering how long it's lasted, I think it got it's share of good play time.
Both sets played every CD perfectly, and all but a couple CDRs worked fine. The ones that didn't work were faulty in other units (CD player, computer, etc.), so it's not the player's fault!
Overall, I think for the price you pay for this set, you'll get good use out of it. It seems like things always need to be replaced after a few years anyway.

Comment: We purchased two of these DVD players at the same time. One stopped playing DVD's right away. We chalked it up to dust from construction of our home. The second was never subjected to any of that as it was packed safely away. Now, it has just quit playing the DVD's. The lights come on, but the unit does not function. Do not buy this product.

Comment: I have never had any problems with this DVD player besides a rare pause between seens (which I have seen on many DVD players of about the same price range/quality). Many people seem to be trashing this DVD player and maybe they have good reason, but I have owned mine for about two years and have had no problems with the unit or its ability to ready DVDs, CDs, CDRs, or CDRWs.
