With its elegant slim-line design and ice-blue illuminated front panel, the XV-N50BK DVD player is not only versatile, but beautiful. And it handles everything from DVD-Video and standard audio CD to audio CD-R and CD-RW discs, MP3 and WMA CD, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and even CDs filled with JPEG image files so you can watch digital slide shows on television.
JVC's 1-bit P.E.M. D.D. audio converter achieves terrific sonic resolution with a high signal-to-noise ratio. The XV-N50BK has been optimized for the high sampling frequency of 192 kHz, providing an extra-wide dynamic range to realize the benefits of high-spec DVD sources. The model's 10-bit, 54 MHz video sampling frequency ensures detailed images and clear, pure colors for DVD movies. And, with seven parameters to adjust, the unit's Video Fine Processor (VFP) provides exceptional versatility in fine-tuning images to personal preferences. The player provides a choice of either optical or coaxial digital-audio output for routing Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1-channel surround signals to a compatible audio/video receiver.
A high-resolution onscreen graphical user interface (GUI) allows Windows-like interactive operation with tool bars superimposed onto the TV screen for simple, point-and-click operation. Other conveniences include AV CompuLink (which optimizes performance when using the player in conjunction with other JVC equipment), Quick Start, 1.5x playback with sound, 13-step zoom, and screen fill (which zooms in on a DVD image to eliminate letterbox "bars" on the TV screen).

I know Im a freak compared to others but I usually end up with the best for what I have to spend. I bought this 3 weeks ago and I haven't noticed any stutter or any other issues. It plays and looks fantastic using component output. I have one week left before I can return it but so far Im pleased. I took a couple of my dvd-r's and a factory dvd with me. I was amazed when it played everything I threw at it. It doesnt play dvd ram however. I seenno stuttering problem at all,must have got a good one. I ended up buying it. Ive been a audio/video enthusiast for sometime and this is my second progressive scan player. The one I took home is a good one too, I havnt had a single problem with it so far. It even displays the folders you put your windows media files in from your computer (Handy). The only reason Im not giving it 5 stars is I do agree with one other reviewer, The blue light on the loading tray is a little distracting, but when you dim it, it can be gotten used too. I love the looks but I like the prformance alot better. I have tested this with 6 brands of DVD-R discs and one DVD+RW disc as well as various CDR's and it has worked without a hitch on everything. There are only two complaints that I have about this player so far that keeps it from a 5 stars in my eyes. First, it won't play mp3's that are put onto DVD's. I tried a $50 apex player and it did them fine. Second, when playing VCD's it says PBC in the display window and won't display the countdown timer like it does with DVD's. I really like to see how far I am into a movie. Aside from those two things it has been a great player and I only wish my TV would handle progressive scan. Oh, when they say slim, they mean slim. The thing is hardly taller than a VHS tape. |
