Picture from machine was razor sharp with great colors. HDMI cable carried two channel audio from player to tv set. Player has blacker than black selection on MODE on remote control; that control also brings up a two step surround sound virtual mode if needed.
Machine decodes 5.1 dolby digital sound only thru coax output. Sound quality, image quality, tone and bass was superb for this price range. Unit could be used as a digital cd transport because of its sound quality. Appears to be well constructed; quiet, small, and unobrusive. Remote is nothing special but adequate. Acces to menus are ok. Should do justice with dvds with any hdtv set on the market. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Magnavox DVD Player with Hdmi and 1080p Upconversion, Bdp170mw8 (Electronics) For the price this can't be beat. Haven't had any problems with this player and for it's affordable price the picture and sound quality are excellent. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Magnavox DVD Player with Hdmi and 1080p Upconversion, Bdp170mw8 (Electronics) When I first used it I was kind of mad. I had just used my friends RCA and the upconverting was amazing. I put the same DVD in mine and the aspect ratio was off and it didn't look as good.
THEN I went through setup and it looks JUST AS GOOD! You have to set this up. I didn't know that because I was lazy and didn't read the directions, and I've never setup an appliance myself before. My dad has two blue ray disc players and an HDDVD player and I think this is just as good! Especially for the price. I got it at walmart for 29.98 and I don't need to go out and buy my movies all over again. I can just use my same old DVDs. Oh and I've had it since April 19, 2008. I hit it into the wall while putting it up on the rack I got and it still works GREAT! |
