The Oppo 95 is an amazing piece of gear. Too many DVD players focus on the video at the expense of audio. This is a challenge especially for people who have a great collection of concert videos. What sets the Oppo 95 apart from all other blu-ray players is that it has an incredible audio DAC. This player sounds as good at any $2000 audiophile SACD/CD player. A true must for HEARING as well as SEEING concert videos.

Even though the player is great, check around locally for pricing. See the Oppo website for a retailed near you. The price on Amazon is not the normal selling price, which should be $999.

PS Oppo, if you read this....add an ipod USB port that pulls the signal bypassing the ipod DAC and playing it through the Oppo DAC. Do that and you have have a truely world class product.

Caveat: all comments below are based on a stock BDP-95. The region free modded model is the only version on Amazon at this time. While I did buy the region free hardware kit (at about 10% of the extra pricing on this version) & installed it myself; mine was purchased stock.

Please consider this a placeholder review; I plan to greatly expand on it in the future; especially as I have spent little time with standard cd on the player.

My main purpose in buying this player was for hi-res audio; I don't even own a hi-def television. I was hoping to find a relatively inexpensive player (by high end standards) that would make hi-res music sound better than cd's currently do on my cd front end. It's replacing a Pioneer DV-578A that was great for the price, but was of lower sonic quality than the rest of my system...Read more

I bought this about 6 months ago. Oppo 95 rocks! It plays CD, MP3, DVD, and Blu Ray like no other player I have ever owned. I have owned most of the Blue Box upper end types. The sound quility is right on and picture is even better. You would have to buy a CD player in the thousands and then a upper end Blu Ray player in the thousands on top of that to match what this can do. Pandora sounds as good as CDs and Sdacs through this machine. If you are sitting on the fence do buy this and you will be happy. Oppo support is excellent, I had a problem with the HDMI jack and they sent me a new one right away and there have been no problem since. If you have high end equipment this device will make them shine.
