Product Description
Panasonic has always been at the cutting edge of Blu-ray technology, but its latest range of players looks to push the boundaries even further. The DMP-BD60 is the entry-level player in the company's latest three-strong line-up - which also includes the step-up DMP-BD80 and the DMP-BD70V Blu-ray/VHS combi (no, really) - and the big breakthrough on these models is the inclusion of Viera Cast functionality, also found on the company's Z1, V10 and G15 NeoPDP TVs.

Summary: Fantastic value for your money! 2010-07-30
Comment: First off, I see several reviews on here that are negative because this player is not compatible with Netflix. Nowhere in the description does it say that it IS compatible, so I'm not sure why anyone would create a negative review based on the inability to play Netflix movies. If the description said it could play Netflix movies and you find that it cannot, then you have every right to give a negative review. Otherwise, if you want Netflix, look for a blu-ray player that specifically notes that it is Netflix compatible...
That being said, I bought this player for the purpose of playing blu-ray movies. It does an excellent job doing so. The quality is fantastic. Even when playing DVD movies, I have noticed a significant difference than if they were played with a DVD player. I highly recommend this player. I like it so much that I may even buy another one for another area in my home.

Summary: Great for 2009 2010-07-19
Comment: This unit has been obsoleted by model DMP-BD65 (ASIN: B0038KN114) which would be a better purchase because it is less expensive and has Netflix capablity.
With consumer products, newer has almost always meant better, faster and cheaper and that is the case here.
This unit's time has come and gone if you want the current Wi-Fi capabilities that Sony and LG offer as well.
This was my first blu-ray disc player and it works great after a few minutes of cold start POST (power on self test). A DVD will play in it, but I prefer to use my 3-disc carousel DVD player because it is faster.
Overall, it is a great step up technologically, but it is slow and had a short life before it was replaced with the upgraded model.

Summary: Can't play Netflix 2010-07-18
Comment: I purchased this product last Xmas and have played a couple of Blu-Ray movies. I recently joined Netflix and "Panasonic Networking Blue-Ray Player" was listed as one of components to be able to play Netflix streaming video, so I decided to upgrade my wireless network from "G" to "N" just so that I can start watching Netflix streaming videos via my entertainment center. I got wireless network setup and Panasonic Blu-Ray player downloaded the latest firmware, and when I went to VIERA screen, Netflix was not listed. So I called customer service and the rep told me that this particular model does not support Netflix! I was SOOOOOO disappointed. The service rep told me that I have to have either DMP-BD65 or DPM-BD85 model.

Summary: PANASONIC vieracast can't be updated 2010-07-04
Comment: Well if you were wondering what all those "COMING SOON" boxes are when you connect through vieracast with this unit they are empty because
this model will not be updated to receive netflix or other services you need to purchase newer 2010 models a major marketing blunder as people who were happy to have a model that had programmable firmware are now only few months own a model that's rendered obsolete. I will buy sony next time..
