We have had this blu-ray player for just over a year. As a previous review states, it skips on regular DVDs. Also, blu-rays load horribly slow. Even with firmware updates, the skipping problem never went away. Also, most recently the tray to load the discs has stopped functioning correctly and gives a "blocked" error message. It is past the warranty so, guess this player is going to the trash.

Purchased the Philips BDP5005 slightly over 1 year ago. About a week after the warranty expired, the player ceased functioning. Spare yourself the money, buy something else. I have a Sony BDP-S300 that is considerably older than the Philips, and with the continual firmware updates, it works without a hitch. I own Philips TV, stereo, etc, and have always been a Philips fan - but they cannot make a decent Blu Ray player, I advise buying a different brand all together. Please remember that Magnavox is the same...Read more
