Product Review
Amazon.com Product Description
With its coaxial and optical digital-audio outputs, the Philips DVD710AT DVD player is compatible with the two major 5.1-channel surround formats, Dolby Digital and DTS, as well as Dolby Pro Logic and DTS. Just plug it into an audio/video receiver with the appropriate decoding chip to enjoy the full panorama of sound that DVD-videos are known for.

Notably, this player also offers top-of-the-line component-video outputs, easily one of the most affordable DVD players to do so. Other video formats are composite- and S-video. So whether it's for a simple TV set or a sophisticated home theater system, hookups should pose little difficulty.

Special features include frame advance, multiple camera angles, multilanguage display, and subtitles. Random play, repeat play, A-B repeat, and programmed playback let you determine how and in what order the tracks or chapters will play.

The advanced capabilities of DVD technology are evident in the language/sound mode options, where you can select a language (including subtitles) for DVDs or a sound mode for audio CDs where only specific channels are active. A convenient front-panel dimmer and a TV screen saver round out the package.

The DVD710AT player is equipped with a parental lock system to monitor family DVD viewing. Video settings such as letterbox, pan and scan, and widescreen can be adjusted using the included full-function remote control.

This unit is not compatible with CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-R discs. Philips provides a warranty of a year on parts and 90 days on labor.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...I guess...., December 31, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this player as a gift for a friend. I own a JVC XV-501BK that's about two years old and twice as expensive. I didn't realize how nice my JVC was until I used this player. The load time of the disc is unusually long (maybe 15 seconds). What exactly is it loading here anyway? My JVC loads a disc in about 2 seconds.

The button placement on the remote is a little unusual as well. The play button is in the top middle while the pause is at the bottom right?!?! At least it saves your stopping place when you hit stop (something my JVC doesn't do without hitting "Resume" first).

....

.... I'd keep looking if I were you...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great basic DVD player, May 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a great basic DVD player for the money. I'm not an expert by any means, but just wanted a good DVD player without breaking my bank account. I'm sure that those wanting very high end Audio/Video output for home theaters will want something more elaborate, but the Philips DVD710AT DVD player gives a great clear picture with nice digital dolby sound and many extra features not available on more expensive models. What a price - and free shipping to boot. If you're looking for a good, solid, basic DVD player, you can't go wrong with this unit. All in all, my kids and I are very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My husband loves this DVD Player, March 30, 2001

This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this DVD player for my husband for his birthday. Ilooked at several of the more expensive DVD players from Toshiba andJVC, but this one seemed to have most of the same features. He wasthrilled. he spent the whole afternoon playing around with it. Hemade me sit through the same scenes, as he hooked it up in differentways . We decided we got the best picture through the component video. He hooked it up through our a/v reciever and it sounds great. Wehave rented DVD's almost every night for the last 2 weeks. For [theprice] this was a great buy. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants tosit on the couch watch movies with their favorite guy.
