Your discs slide conveniently behind the unit's 7-inch widescreen LCD, minimizing required viewing space. There's no screen to unfold--just load your DVD or CD and hit play.
Measuring a mere 7.9 x 1 x 6 inches (W x H x D), the durable DRC618N plays back MP3-encoded recordable CDs in addition to commercial and homemade DVDs (DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW). An audio/video input grants quick and easy connection to video games, camcorders, and television sets, while the player's high-power, rechargeable lithium battery provides up to 3 hours of viewing per charge. Listen through the unit's stereo speakers or plug in a pair of headphones (not included) for private listening.
Added conveniences include a vehicle DC power adapter, espX skip protection, a credit-card-size remote control, and audio/video cables for connecting to AV sources. When you're at home, you can route both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals through the player's optical digital-audio output for direct connection to a surround-decoding audio/video receiver (digital-audio interconnect not included).
Playback features include MultiSpeed smooth scan and slow motion in forward and reverse, perfect still pictures, forward and reverse frame-by-frame advance and skip, and aspect-ratio correction (select from 4:3, 16:9 and letterbox).

I was going to buy a monitor alone and connect it to a stand alone dvd player, but when I saw this one with a dvd player built in I thought that I could use it anywhere. You can disconnect the battery if you want to. you can plug in the ac/dc plug in home, or 12v car power adapter for the car. It's very light and very/very! solid, (no plastic). The bottom where the battery plugs in is actually the same size as a tripod shoe screw so you can mount it to a tripod. It has digital/optical outs and video/audio in/outs for video games. You can reverse the image if you want to mount the unit upside down. (tripod mount) like what I've done on my vans ceiling. The only thing you need to remember is that unlike other dvd players this doesn't have a lid to protect the screen. But it does come with a nice protective bag. For transporting and a case to hang from your cars headrest. So that ultra compact form factor just got 25% bigger as you must screw the battery pack to the bottom of the unit (it is not shown in the picture). Then, that nice case that lets you attach it to a headrest, well, it fits great without the battery, but with the battery on there is no way to fit it (believe me, I tried). There is a nice built in "stand", it is designed to only be effective when the battery is not installed. The screen quality and external sounds are a bit worse then other units, though not horrible (especially as most of us will use the unit with headphones). Originally, I was looking at the fold open style until I saw this one. The price was right, so I took the chance. Great player! Picture quality is excellent for the size. No 'fold open' hinges or latches to wear out. I especially like the design of setting it up like a picture frame stand on the airplane serving tray in front of me. Battery life so far has been 3:30 to 3:50 which is enough to get through "Return of the King". The "back of seat" bag (included) looks like it would be quite nice to use in the van. We have a factory DVD player, but now have the option of letting some of the kids watch a DVD while others play N64...with headphones all around. In short, I am pleased with the quality/value of the player. |
