RCA Portable DVD Player with 7" Screen

I was very surprised to see the negative reviews for this product. Today i was just thinking about what a great DVD player we have so I decided to put in a review.

We bought this at a black friday deal, for $40 and it was one of the best purchases we have made. It has lasted 1 year and we have used it hundreds of times, in the car, in the airplane, and it currently is used as our home dvd player. We unplug it when we want to take it in the car. We have never NOT been able to play something on it (we don't use DVD-R's). We have spilled lots of things on it and it has fallen on the floor a lot.

Bottom line, if you're going to be using this for traveling it is wonderful. The money we spent on it--compared to the times it has been useful to quiet our baby/now toddler--has been many times worth it.

It's not the most awesome DVD player I am sure. But it does the job. It looks great when plugged into our 32" flat panel at home.

Despite the other reviewers, this RCA DVD player is not horrible for the price. I've had one since June 2009, and we've put it through its paces. It has survived multiple car trips (over 4 hours) and one airplane trip to Florida without any trouble. It does a good job outputting to a SD TV too. However, it has a few problems. For starters, the buttons are poorly labeled. In fact, there are four buttons that don't even have labels. Additionally, the screen and speaker don't shut off when outputting to the TV. Finally, the battery can not be removed. It certainly beats the no-name models we've purchased before.

I received this as a gift - but the device stopped reading discs after about 1 month and I had no receipt. The customer service department at my local electronics store said that it was not worth it to fix, so I had not choice but to dump it. I would stay away from this model.
