3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:
A Display
First, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A Source
Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content
3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D Glasses
For now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI Cable
To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D.
Internet-Ready Devices

Internet-ready devices use your broadband connection to deliver dynamic content to your television, whether it's streaming video from Netflix, new music from Pandora, or a quick glance at today's weather forecast.

Although there is overlap, each manufacturer offers a unique bundle of free or paid services, including streaming video and music, social networking apps, online photo galleries, news and financial updates, weather info, sports scores, and a variety of other smartphone-like applications.

Manufacturers continue to add new content to their offerings, keeping customers current through firmware updates, and making a bit of research a prudent step in your buying decision.

Learn more about Internet-ready devices and HDTVs, how they work, what services are offered by different manufacturers, and exactly what you'll need to get started at our Internet TV 101 customer center.

5.0 out of 5 stars BD-D7500 Solves Most Crosstalk With UN55C8000 TV, April 4, 2011
Archrider - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung BD-D7500 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Silver) [2011 MODEL] (Electronics)
I upgraded to the BD-D7500 when my BD-D6800 blu-ray player stopped working after 6 months (froze up in the middle of all movies). I was upset with crosstalk in 3D on my UN55C8000 TV set. I always assumed the problem had to be the TV or the glasses or the media. I played the 3D blu-rays I have and low and behold where I had seen crosstalk there was none. It absolutely floored me. I was very happy with this unexpected benefit. Crosstalk was the biggest problem I could see with 3D on the Samsung 2010 models. Who knew adding a 2011 player would fix it. Comparing this setup with the Panasonic top of the line 3D sets (usually acknowledged as the best 3D), it stands up very favorably.

All other features work very well. I like the interface better than the 2010 models. I haven't tried "Smart Hub" yet.

The form, finish and light show are just great. I prefer to lay it flat on top of my TV stand rather than stand it on edge as pictured I placed some plastic...Read more

This review is from: Samsung BD-D7500 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Silver) [2011 MODEL] (Electronics)
Purchased this unit from Vann's (through Amazon). Played 3D Blu-ray beautifully, but wouldn't play 2D or music. Hadn't registered with Samsung, so called Vann's direct to explain. They exchanged the unit immediately. Second unit worked impressively for all features for around 25 to 30 hours; then it would not "recognize" 3D - 2D - or music CD's. Trouble shooting is simple through manual, but a call to Samsung support (Philippines) resulted in an identical test with a diagnosis of "hardware problem". Support (Philippines) was "scripted" and I could not get an answer to a replacement question, and they could not furnish a number for Samsung USA. Repair/shipping information was sent 24 hours after the one hour promised email ... then could not print out the shipping label due to the Samsung server dedicated to that detail being unavailable (or for some other undecipherable reason on error message). Repeated phone calls to repair center in New Jersey were shifted to Philippines...Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Won't play standard "DVD Video" disks, July 2, 2011

This review is from: Samsung BD-D7500 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Silver) [2011 MODEL] (Electronics)
Plus - player mounts nicely to the wall with provided mount and looks cool. Smaller than I expected.

Minus - will not play standard "DVD Video" disks which is the standard DVD movie/video format - like nearly everything you get at netflix or blockbuster. The provided owners manual says that format is supported. Downloaded latest firmware (1003) which did not resolve the problem. Unwilling waste time on 1-800 nonsense and punted unit back to whence it came. Surfed the samsung web site which was unhelpful. Would have liked to have a normal audio/video out connector instead of the 4 way 1/4" plug and the led lighting on the front is annoying. Looking at 4 screw hole mounts in my wall - hoping they figure it out and make the black version available here. Maybe some region code mixup?
