Summary: I will never buy another Samsung again 2010-03-08
Comment: Had problems with this player as soon as we took it out of the box. Every movie we put in there has a problem somewhere during the duration of the movie. I will never buy another Samsung product again.

Summary: Quality and Service Not That Good 2010-03-05
Comment: I had bought this player back in November 2009. And I had more problems playing the Blu Ray DVD's than I ever wanted. First, as newer DVD's come out, you always have to check for new Firmware, which you have to always update your player with. Now, a few days after my 3 month warranty for labor expired, my Blu Ray player freezes on Blu Ray discs or has issues with not able to read a Blu Ray disc. But it plays a regular DVD fine. And on top of that, the player gets hot. After calling for service, for a 3 month old machine, they want to charge me over $80 for the labor to fix a new machine, while the parts are free and there was nothing they can do. This is so absurd that a new machine can break so fast. Not happy with the player or Samsungs customer Service.

Comment: When I first got this player I was so impressed with it. It's quality of vidoe and audio were great. Then after about 6 months it began overheating. The problem gets progressively worse and worse to the point where I can't watch a Blu-Ray movie on the player anymore. I now have to watch them on my Sony Laptop. Samsung is no help and wants $160 to fix which is more than the cost of a new one! It's ridiculous! Do not buy!

Summary: OK While It Lasted 2010-02-13
Comment: Bought this player at the end of November 2008 along with a Samsung 52" HD LCD TV. As expected, it operated a little slower than a regular DVD player, but not bad. Picture and audio quality on blu-ray discs was very good, although I didn't attempt numerous comparisons. Upconversion of regular DVDs was better than expected. On a couple occasions, a particular blu-ray disc would not play properly. But this was easily resolved by upgrading the firmware. Everything was fine until last week. A couple of times I attempted to play a blu-ray disc and the unit would either present an error message that the disc could not be played or would simply revert to "no disc" mode. After multiple attempts, these discs ultimatedly played. But that only lasted for a couple discs. Now it won't play any blu-ray discs. It will still play regular discs, but that's of little value given the rest of my home theater setup. I called Samsung support and followed their direction to make sure the firmware was up to date and settings were reset to factory defaults - with no success. Samsung said I would have to send it in to get it fixed at a cost of roughly $150 - not much less than the cost of a new "entry-level" unit.
So this home electronics device lasted about 14 months. I think that's pretty shabby, and is why I'm now rating it 2 stars.
