Key Features

Upscaling DVD Player via HDMI Connection: Upscaling DVD Player (via HDMI; cable sold separately) makes your existing DVDs look better on your HDTV by improving the picture quality to near high definition.

Precision Cinema Progressive Technology: Many other DVD players detect image changes at the scan line level; the Sony Precision Cinema Progressive system, however, detects image changes at the pixel level. The picture is more faithful to the source--whether film or video--because special algorithms handle the different pixel behavior. The technology also employs separate algorithms to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from artifacts.

Multiple Format Disc Playback: View movies and photos and listen to music using this DVD player with multiple format playback.

Photo TV HD: Bring your photos to life and enjoy highly detailed, Full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080-pixel) images with the PhotoTV HD mode. PhotoTV HD works with select Sony cameras and this DVD player and HDMI output to fine tune sharpness, gradation, and color, displaying images that more closely match the look of printed photos.

Dolby Digital and dts Coaxial Digital Output: The DVP-SR500H includes support for enhanced audio formats from Dolby and dts and provides connectivity to some older receivers and televisions allowing the player to work with some audio systems. Also included is an analog audio two-channel output.

Multi-Brand TV Remote Control: Switching back and forth between remote controls while watching television or a movie is a hassle. The remote control included with the DVP-SR500H allows you to operate most major brands of television and this DVD player.

Precision Drive 3 System: Sony Precision Drive 3 assists in quickly correcting warping and surface layer issues on this DVDs for smooth playback.

Energy Star certified

Multiple-Disc Resume: Multiple-disc resume allows you to power on your player and return to the last scene you were watching on up to six of your most previously watched discs without having to search.

Meets ENERGY STAR Guidelines: Many home audio and video devices can use significant power, even when turned off and in standby mode. The DVP-SR500H, however, was built for energy efficiency.

Fast/Slow Playback with Sound: Fast and slow playback with sound lets you advance through scenes quickly without missing the dialog.

Child Lock (Tray Lock): A child lock feature help prevents children from accessing the DVD player's tray.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent picture compared to older models, October 5, 2010

This review is from: Sony DVP-SR500H 1080p Upscaling DVD Player (Electronics)
We had a 3-yr old Sony DVD player but were not happpy with image quality on 42" LCD TV. Bought this newer sony and it is excellent. Much smaller, lighter, and a lot quicker to load/eject a disc. Image quality finally looks as good as all the display models in the stores. Compatible with all older Sony remotes, including a 15-year old one. Simply the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars I NEED MY EJECT BUTTON!, August 12, 2010

This review is from: Sony DVP-SR500H 1080p Upscaling DVD Player (Electronics)
As stated in the other review, the remote to this DVD player does not have an open/eject button. I know it isn't such a big deal, but sometimes at night I have to pop open the dvd player to add another DVD and have to turn on the light. I assumed since it was the 21st century that a simple eject button would be available! Other then that, the quality of the dvd player is TREMENDOUS! My brother and I currently own one and I purchased one for my girlfriend as well. If you're VERY picky about remotes than I'd say this is a deal breaker, but if you really don't care, with an HDMI cord you could say the second best thing next to blu-ray!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy-to-use Reliable Upscaling DVD Player, October 30, 2010
This review is from: Sony DVP-SR500H 1080p Upscaling DVD Player (Electronics)
I did not want to replace my extensive DVD library with new Blu-Ray movies for two reasons, #1 cost #2 I feel that Blu-Ray will soon be replaced. So, I wanted an upscaling DVD player. I previously had a Sony product that was virtually indestructable. By the way, it had an eject button on the remote that was NEVER used. My DVD player sits behind a closed glass door and I always had to open that door before ejecting. I went with a Sony product again because of reliability and low cost, and SONY did it again. I've had this one for about 6 months now and have no complaints whatsoever. It's just as reliable as the last one. I don't use the remote for this one either, I have a remote for my Pioneer Receiver that controls everything. I'm not what one would consider a huge afficianado as far as home theater is concerned, I like to put a disc (movie) in and watch it, period. This DVD player allows me to do just that. I would recommend this unit to anyone who, like me, is more...Read more
