The Toshiba BDX-1100 is a stylish Blu-ray DVD Disc player which does everything you want a basic Blu-ray player to do. It plays the most popular video formats BD-ROM, DVD, BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, CD, CD-RW, AVCHD and CD-DA. It automatically Up Converts non 1080P formats to 1080P with good clarity. It provides support for MP3 audio playback in two channel stereo and has built in surround sound decoders for Dolby Digital, Dolby True HD and Dolby Digital plus, DTS and DTS HD.

Our spare room DVD player finally had seen its last day. As we slowly start to build a collection of Blu-Ray disks it only made sense to replace it with a Blu-Ray player. Since our old player was a high end product "Cyberhome", wink, wink, I went on the search for a similar low cost unit. I had my reservations when I saw this unit for the price but the mfr. has usally demontrated quality and it certainly is a step above that of "Cyberhome". We decided to buy the unit and hooked it up via HDMI, of course. Wow! is all we could say. At first hook up the player prompts you through a few set-up questions and your set! Simple and easy. The picture was fantastic and the unit has worked better than my expectations. The remote isn't to bad either

I bought this unit during the week of Black Friday deals at Amazon as our older blu-ray player is an early first generation that is very slow when it comes to loading discs.

At first, the the Toshiba seemed like an improvement as it would load much faster than our old unit. I started playing some of the new blu rays that I also purchased about the same time and started running into issues. The unit would freeze for no apparent reason part way into a movie or when accessing the menu while playing a movie. When I say it froze, I mean it completely froze the unit. None of the remote buttons (open, close, power, etc.) would work. None of the front panel buttons would work. You would have to physically unplug the unit to get it to start up again. I thought it might just be a particular blu ray or two but it has had this problem repeatedly on different discs including Smokin' Aces, Battlestar Galactica season 2 and 3, Star Trek (the new one), and others.
