I felt I needed to comment on the Toshiba SD-590KA all region DVD player, after I had read one very negative review. I've had this region free DVD player for about two weeks now, and everything has been working fine. I've tested this player using DVDs from region 1, region 2, and region 4. I've also used a region free DVD. It's a very easy to operate region free DVD player, and all you need to do is put your disc into the tray and hit play. The DVD player knows what region the disc is from, and it will play it. The only negative things I can say about this DVD player seem rather petty, and they have to do with the design of the tray. It's a very shallow tray and it's a bit difficult to see if I've put the DVD into the circular holding area. Also, it's necessary to remove the discs carefully from the tray when finished playing them, because the tray doesn't extend out as far as other players I've had. This makes it possible to bang the discs into the player while removing them. I will...Read more

Ordered this product in order to view a UK comedy series not shipped to the US. Having read other reviews I was quite skeptical, but wanted to try it. It is flawless. Extremely compact. Works perfectly. At this price, amazing.
Caution: it only supports component (red/green/blue) and composite (yellow) video connections, NOT HDMI as suggested by the "other products people buy with this..." add on scheme. So don't buy the HDMI cable. You can not use it. Composite video supports progressive scan and is adequate for most users.

The first review of this DVD player was spot on- but if you know nothing about technical things then rest assured- all you have to is hook it up, drop in the DVD and hit play. I went through and tested my various region DVD's and there was nothing different going from one region to the next- same loading time, same picture quality, same sound ect.

Everything I needed was in the box- so as far as the 'extras' go, I can't add to that conversation.

So if you're starting to purchase import DVD's give this player a chance and enjoy!
