This model is compatible with both Dolby Digital and Digital Theater Sound (DTS) formats. Using the coaxial digital-audio output, you can connect the DVD2200 to a preamp or AV receiver with DTS and/or Dolby Digital processing and enjoy surround-sound movies in either format. That's a big plus, especially as more DVD titles are released in DTS. The DVD2200 has a 10-bit digital-to-analog video decoder, as opposed to the 8-bit models that were common when the DVD format was first introduced. It also incorporates a 24-bit, 96 kHz audio D/A converter, which translates into higher-quality sound--particularly when using the DVD2200 as a CD player. Zenith supplies a full-function remote control that lets you enlarge images to either four or 16 times their normal size--a great feature for zooming in on credits at the end of a movie. Additional features include a single S-Video output, an intuitive onscreen menu, parental control, and 3D Virtual Surround.

I bought mine at a local retailer in June of 99. On those movies that played, picture quality with s-video cable was a knockout, and the sound coupled with a sony pro-logic reciever + 5 speakers is superb. This unit sold me on DVD forever. My VHS has cobwebs over the play button. The problem that I experienced with this player is that an average of one in 3 disks would freeze at some point in the last third of the movie. Sometimes I could skip ahead, then back and continue viewing, but more often, I would miss several chapters or the ending entirely. Also, the "Matrix" bug got me with this Player. I also experienced similar problems with "The Wild Wild West". I am hoping that this unit was of early manufacture, and that Zenith has erradicated some or all of these problems. I have finally said goodbye to my Zenith, and am probably going to buy one of the...Read more 34 of 35 people found the following review helpful: By Dan Keller (MN, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Zenith DVD-2200 DVD Player (Electronics) I was very excited when I got my Zenith DVD2200 in the mail. Icouldn't wait to hook it up and watch some great movies. My first fewmovies on the machine worked great, but I could not get Ghostbusters to work at all! The player would give me a disc error every time I put it in. Finally, I called Zenith and asked what the problem was. They said it need a software upgrade and to send it in. I did, and got it back about 2 weeks later. This time no discs would work at all! NONE of my DVDs worked. I sent it in again, another two weeks... Now, all my movies work, but I have to put the disc in an average of three times before it will read it. Avoid this unit at all costs! Obviously, Zenith forgot to put the quality in before the name went on. (Some movies with this problem are The Matrix, The Abyss, Alien, and several others that have multiple editions coinciding together). There is no statement on the DVD movie itself to warn you of this problem. Be warned that most retail sales store will NOT take back any movies for this problem, if they are open. 2> DVD Player has no optical output (Minor problem, if you are looking for the top of the line) |
